Living in the Bow Valley, we are fortunate to live among an abundance of wildlife. The WildSmart Community program is a proactive conservation strategy that encourages efforts by communities to reduce negative human-wildlife interactions. 

Here are a few tips while exploring our beautiful valley;

Precaution and pre-planning are the best ways to avoid an unwanted encounter with wildlife. First, check for trail closures and warnings while planning your trip. Second, learn how to avoid encounters and how to recognize signs of bears and other wildlife.You can avoid bear encounters by:

Always carrying bear spray and air horns. They work!
Traveling in groups whenever possible.
Making lots of noise and being aware of your surroundings.
Leaving wildlife corridors to wildlife and recreate elsewhere.
Respecting all trail closures and warnings.
Walking your dog on a leash unless in a designated off-leash area.
